The autumn leaf insect (Phyllium tobeloense) is a master of disguise, native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. Its body mimics a dried or green leaf so closely that even its legs resemble leaf veins. By remaining motionless during the day and feeding on foliage at night, it avoids predators through near-perfect camouflage in its warm, humid environment.
🍂 Nature’s masterpiece – These insects are some of the best leaf mimics in the world, with bodies that resemble autumn leaves right down to the “veins” and “bite marks.”
🟤🍁 Amazing camouflage – Their colours range from golden brown to olive-green, with intricate markings that perfectly mimic real foliage.
📏 Medium-sized wonders – Adults grow to around 7–10 cm (2.75–4 inches), with broad, flat bodies and wide leaf-like legs.
👧 Great for careful beginners – While more delicate than some species, they’re calm, slow-moving, and easy to observe.
🌿 Enjoy a fresh buffet – Feed well on bramble, oak, guava, raspberry, and sometimes rose. Prefer soft, fresh leaves.
🌫️ Humidity is key – Autumn leaf insects need stable humidity and warm temperatures, especially while moulting. A humid microclimate is essential for success.
🐣 Females lay eggs without males – Most species are parthenogenetic, so you don’t need a male for breeding, though male/female mixes are available.
🦋 Flightless females – Only males develop functional wings. Females are bulkier and more rounded with leaf-like camouflage.
🌙 Nocturnal and peaceful – Most active at night, they spend their days resting in the open, completely camouflaged.
🌏 Found across Southeast Asia – Particularly common in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, living in forest undergrowth.

🐣 Healthy Nymphs Only
We only send out L3 stage stick insect nymphs or older. “L3” means the insect has shed its skin twice since hatching, making it stronger, more stable, and easier to care for than newly hatched (L1) nymphs.
🐛 Stick Insect Care Tip
Due to the natural fragility of stick insects at this age, it’s normal that not all individuals will survive the early stages of life — even with excellent care and conditions. To increase your chances of success, we highly recommend starting with a small group (e.g., 3 or more). This not only improves survival odds but also gives your insects a more natural and enriching environment.
Most customers choose 3+ nymphs for the best experience.
