Jungle nymphs (Heteropteryx dilatata) are native to the rainforests of Malaysia, particularly the Malay Peninsula, and can also be found in parts of Thailand and Borneo. These insects thrive in humid, tropical forest environments, where they stay hidden among foliage during the day and feed at night.
Females are highly territorial – Only one adult female should be kept per enclosure.
Males are expert fakers – They often play dead for hours when threatened, staying perfectly still until they feel safe.
One of the largest insects in the world – Adult females can grow up to 15 cm (6 inches) long and are incredibly bulky.
Masters of camouflage – Their leaf-like appearance helps them vanish into foliage during the day.
Bright warning colours – When disturbed, they flash pink wings and yellow-green undersides as a warning display.
Spiny defence – Females use their powerful back legs, lined with spikes, to kick predators or intruders.
Mostly nocturnal – Active at night, they prefer dim environments and undisturbed areas.
Big eaters – Enjoy guava, bramble, oak, and other broad-leafed plants.

🐣 Healthy Nymphs Only
This listing is for a male and female jungle nymph. We only send out L3 stage stick insect nymphs or older. “L3” means the insect has shed its skin twice since hatching, making it stronger, more stable, and easier to care for than newly hatched (L1) nymphs.
🐛 Stick Insect Care Tip
Due to the natural fragility of stick insects at this age, it’s normal that not all individuals will survive the early stages of life — even with excellent care and conditions. To increase your chances of success, we highly recommend starting with a small group (e.g., 3 or more). This not only improves survival odds but also gives your insects a more natural and enriching environment.
Most customers choose 3+ nymphs for the best experience.
